UX Manager
Department: Software Development
Reports to: Head of Software Development
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

As UX Manager you will lead a team of UX/ Design specialists who are responsible for delivering market leading products and services in the construction industry.
You will be working on a number of our UX and software development initiatives which will primarily involve:

Defining and leading the implementation of UX processes and guidelines within the overall product development process

Ensuring UX team output is delivered in line with defined UX processes and guidelines

Bringing a regular fresh perspective to UX processes across the entire product development process

Assisting in the creation of design assets during development such as personas, user flows,
wireframes, prototypes or high fidelity designs

Coaching UX team members to improve their skills

You will spend time coordinating work with Product Managers, Software Development Managers and Quality Assurance Managers as well as helping to define product development processes.
This role is important in enabling the company to deliver high quality, consistent and engaging user experiences across web, mobile and desktop software.

People & Resources

Staff: The UX Manager will be responsible for leading a team consisting of a mix of Senior UX Designers and UX Designers.

Resources: Adobe Creative Cloud.

Key responsibilities

Define, maintain and implement a set of UX processes and guidelines for use across the company product development process

Ensure that the output of your team aligns to agreed software development/ UX guidelines and
associated policies

Contribute to the development of and promote a strong UX culture across the software development teams and the wider business

Upholding a strong UX culture and promoting this across the wider organisation

Manage and lead your team, setting clear short and long term goals whilst assessing team and
individual performance

Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a design system so that components can be re-used across multiple different software products and services to help drive consistency and efficiency

Contribute to UX design, UI design and research to produce the relevant design assets during
development such as personas, user flows, wireframes, prototypes or hi-lo fidelity designs

Ensure you and your team continuously iterate your work based on user testing data and qualitative feedback

Mentor, coach, motivate and continually challenge individuals to reach their full potential

Collaborate with Product Managers/ Owners, Developers, Designers, Quality Assurance, Marketing and other stakeholders to understand users’ needs and refine requirements

Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders and manage their expectations

Support Product Owners/ Managers with respect to agile ceremonies such as planning, review,
refinement and maintenance of the product backlog

Act as a key point of escalation to help quickly remove design, process or business blockers
preventing teams from meeting their commitments

Collaborate with partners and external suppliers where appropriate

Liaise with customers as required and drive a customer-centric approach across the designers and developers

Remain up to date and competent with the latest tools and practices in UX

The job holder may also be asked to undertake other duties outside of this job description that are commensurate with their skills and experience, including tasks delegated by the Head of Software Development and other management staff.

Measure of success

Products and services are delivered meeting requirements, design, brand and quality criteria

UX work is completed in line with design standards and methodologies

Regularly drives continuous improvement within the UX team and delivers efficiency improvements

Performance reviews are held and completed on time

Development plans are in place and delivered for team members

A consistent UX approach is delivered across the companies product range

Serious risks and issues are highlighted to the Head of Software Development in a timely manner with suggestions for resolution

Technical/ Job skills, qualifications and experience

 A strong background in a user experience focussed role
 Experience managing a team of software design professionals
 A solid understanding of the core UX principles such as UX Design, UI Design and Research
 Demonstrable experience of turning large quantities of data into simple elegant solutions
 Experience working with and managing multiple stakeholders both internally and externally
 Experience in agile ways of working
 Comfortable challenging the norms whilst being passionate and visionary about users
 Excellent written and verbal communication
 Flexible and adaptable to a fast changing environment
 Have a real passion and talent for all things design and want to inspire your colleagues
 Experience of industry software tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, InVision, Google
Analytics, Sketch
